Welcome!

Hello! I am Mrs. Patton, and I teach 7th Grade Language Arts this year. I also co-sponsor the Creative Writing club. I am very much enjoying working with my new students here at Bon Lin Middle School and being a Bon Lin Lynx! If you have any questions for me, feel free to email me at ppatton@bartlettschools.org.

DGP Student Notes

These notes should help guide you through our Daily Grammar Practice. The days of the week are not correct, but it is still accurate information. We will do all capitalization and punctuation on the first day; then parts of speech; parts of a sentence; clauses, clause type, sentence type, and sentence purpose; and on Fridays we will not be diagramming at this time.

Q3 Book Report

For the third nine weeks, our book reports will be biographies or autobiographies. We have discussed off-limits people in class, and the reports will be due in February. A speech is a REQUIRED part of the grade, and the students should prepare an additional 2D or 3D model.

2nd Nine Weeks Book Report

For the second nine weeks, our students will be reading a nonfiction novel of at least 250 pages. These novels should not be autobiographies or biographies, because that assignment will be for next nine weeks. Students have been finding it difficult to choose a nonfiction novel of this length, and so may need to visit the public library or other venues to find such a book. I have included below a small sample of the type of novel they should look for. This is not an exclusive list by any means, just a few which I have seen.

Bomb by Steve Sheinkin (or many of his other works)
The Nazi Hunters by Neal Bascomb
Max by Boaz Yakin
Titanic: Voices from the Disaster by Deborah Hopkinson
The President Has Been Shot!: The Assassination of John F. Kennedy by James SwansonThe Dark Game: True Spy Stories by Paul Janeczko

Book Report Q2

Book report projects for quarter 2 are due on November 24th, 2014. The books must be from the mystery/science fiction/fantasy genre, at least 250 pages in length, and pre-approved by me! Oral reports of about 2-3 minutes will be presented on November 24-25, and are a required portion of the grade.
