8th Grade Registration Information
Registering for high school classes is an exciting time for our students, but can also be overwhelming. We want to aide in that process by providing some helpful information for you. Below, you will find various links and documents that will assist you in helping your student complete their 9th grade course registration and their 4 year plans.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you would like to schedule a meeting with a school counselor to discuss your child's options in more detail.
Schedule of Events:
February 8th-9th ---- Students will complete Course Selection Cards in Math Guidance
February 15th-16th ---- Students will complete 4 Year Plans Rough Draft in Social Studies Guidance
February 16th ---- Course Selection Cards due to homeroom teacher
February 20th ---- Honors Academy Application opens on the BCS Website
February 22nd ---- Honors Academy Presentation
February 22nd ----- Parent meeting 5-6pm in the cafeteria
February 26th- 27th ---- Counselor will meet with students individually to go over 4 Year Plans and Course Selection Cards in Science Guidance
February 29th ---- Preview Night at The Academy from 4:30-6:30
March 1st ---- FINAL 4 Year Plans due to homeroom teacher
March 4th-5th ---- Students will enter course selections into PowerSchool during Language Arts Guidance
March 8th ---- PowerSchool closes to students and parents for entering course selections and making changes
April 15th ---- Honors Academy Application due online via the BCS website
TBD ---- PowerSchool Verification Letters due
If you would like to schedule a meeting to discuss the materials you receive, please feel free to contact your child’s school counselor. It is not required to meet with a counselor to discuss registration.

Preliminary Course Selection
During the week of February 8th-9th, students will make preliminary 9th grade course selections using a paper form from their course selection folder. The purpose of this is for counselors to be able to review students selections for accuracy prior to completing the registration process via PowerSchool. This will be completed during students’ Math guidance classes.
Honors Course Information
Students and their parents should complete the honors contract below if they would like to be enrolled in an honors class during their 9th grade year.
- It is recommended that students have a 90 Y1 average to enroll in an honors class.
- Honors contracts are due to BLMS school counselors when course selection cards are turned in (due February 23rd)
- Must have honors classes listed, current Y1 average for 8th grade classes, parent signature, and student signature.
