My name is Ms. Houston, and I have the pleasure of working with your child this year for their mathematics and/or English Language Arts course(s). I am very excited to begin my third year at Bon Lin Middle. I look forward to the opportunity to get to know each of you and your children.
I believe that communication between school and home is vital to your child’s success in school. Parental involvement makes critical contributions to student achievement from preschool through high school. Parent(s)/guardian(s) who encourage learning are more important to student achievement than income, educational level, or cultural background. When children and parents talk regularly about school, children perform better academically. Positive results of parental involvement include improved student achievement, reduced absenteeism, improved behavior, and restored confidence among parents in their children’s schooling. Communication between you and I assists me in understanding your educational goals for your child as well as his/her strengths and weaknesses. To better serve your child, I must be able to have efficient and effective communication with you. For these reasons, I request that we keep in close contact throughout the school year. I ask that you please do not hesitate to send an email, or request a conference with me.
A letter from you to me would help me get a head start in learning about your child. What are your child’s interests? How does your child express himself/herself best—through art, speaking, writing, music, etc.? Are there any special needs or concerns? These are just a few ideas of what your letter to me might include. Please feel free to write anything that you would feel would be important for me to know about your child.
I can also be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will also be happy to set up a time for us to meet during non-instructional times. I am available for meetings during my planning and in the afternoon by appointment only.
Your child may receive homework. Please check your remind app and/or my website with updated statuses about assignments, quizzes, projects, and exam dates. Homework assignments are meant to reinforce skills taught in class. They also serve as a practical way of letting you know what we are practicing in class. Please let me know via email or phone call if an assignment is too difficult for your child, or if it could not be completed for some reason. I can make minor adjustments for the needs of your child.
Attendance is vital to your child’s education. Please make sure that your child attends school regularly. Your child will have a make-up assignment(s), provided that his/her absence is excusable. These assignments will be given out on Tuesdays only. Students have until the following Tuesday to return work. This process allows one week for your child to complete his/her assignments.
If we work as a team, I am sure that your child will have a successful and enjoyable school year. I look forward to working with you and your child this year.
Ms. C. Houston
