Q1W7 (9/20-9/24)

Here is a fluid  look at the week ahead:

Monday: Fossil Sort, quarantine students should complete the Geological Time Webquest (listed on Tuesday's day)

Tuesday: Bellwork #6 on Canvas, Study Guide due. Complete Geological Webquest, link for webquest (www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/education/explorations/tours/geotime/gtpage1.html) .Geological Time Webquest LS4.1.pdf 

Wednesday: LS4.1 Notes on The Fossil Record

Thursday: Bellwork #7 on Canvas Finish notes on LS4.1 Fossils and work on study guide LS4.1 Study Guide.docx

Friday: LS4.1 Study Guide due

Parent teacher conferences are also Thursday with limited spaces. If you would like a conference, please let me know and I can try to accommodate or set up an alternate time or phone call. 

Mr. Duncan has set the deadline of Oct. 1 for all student to have a hard-shell case on their laptops.  If you do not have a case by the laptop check day of Oct 4, you will have to leave your laptop at school and become a day user until a case is purchased.  

*** Please remember that if a student must quarantine due to exposure to Covid, the student is still responsible for each day’s activities.  All work should be submitted each day via e-mail, except for quizzes or tests and they will be completed upon return in class.  Students can find any notes missed on my website (https://blms.bartlettschools.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=524639&type=u&pREC_ID=780056) or on canvas, on the Powerpoint that corresponds to the standard (anything in red should be in their notes). Additionally, the PowerPoints can help complete study guides and students may also check the YouTube videos (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7Up3MfJhRl47DmJdHV6Fjg) for any that my correspond to the standard. ***

Q1W6 (9/13-9/17)

Here is a fluid  look at the week ahead:

Monday: Bellwork LS #6 on Canvas (should be completed within your class period)Complete infographic (must be turned in by the end of class) and look over LS4.5 study guide to answer any questions

Tuesday: LS4.5 Quiz, as quiz is completed, students will begin working on the LS4.2-LS4.5 review for the cumulative test on Friday

Wednesday: Guest speaker from the BPD

Thursday: Bellwork LS #7 on Canvas (should be completed within your class period)Look over LS4.2-LS4.5 review to answer any questions

Friday: Test (remember this is cumulative, meaning it covers the content from the year thus far).

Q1W5 (9/6-9/10)

Here is a fluid  look at the week ahead:

Monday: Labor Day- No School

Tuesday: Begin LS4.5 Artificial Selection- Is it possible for humans to change an organism’s phenotype? “Super Cows” (cow data and video)

Wednesday:  Wrap up “Super Cows” with discussion on morality of artificial selection, LS4.5 Artificial Selection Notes and hand out Study guide

Thursday: LS4.5 Artificial Selection Ethical Guidelines notes

Friday: LS4.5 Artificial Selection Poster (students will create a poster identifying the 3 types of artificial selection and examples of each).

Q1W4 (8/30-9/3)

Here is a fluid  look at the week ahead:

Monday (8/30): Peppered Moth activity (graded), begin LS4.4 Natural Selection discussion

Tuesday: Evolution and Speciation notes (Natural Selection)

Wednesday: LS4.4 Natural Selection discussion

Thursday: Survival of the Sneakiest

Friday (9/3): LS4.4 (Natural Selection) quiz

Q1W3 (8/23-8/27)

Here is a look at the week ahead but please remember these are fluid plans:

Monday (8/23):  LS4.3 Phenomena and class discussion – Pocket mice

Tuesday: Research and analysis of pocket mice, anchoring phenomena with other phenomena

Wednesday: Direct Notes on LS4.3 and study guide handed out

Thursday: Class Discussion on evidence of comparative anatomy and geology

Friday: Class discussions continued, LS4.3 study guides due

Q1W2 (8/16-8/20)

Week one of 8th grade is in the books and it has been great. I am so happy to have a full classroom again. Thank you for entrusting me with your baby this year and I look forward to learning names and watching each student grow.  Thank you to those whom turned in their syllabus by Friday, if it has not been submitted, please do so.

Q1W1 (8/9-8/13)

For Science class this year, all students need a plastic 3 brad folder with pockets, a composition notebook, paper, and something to write with.  If this is an issue, please reach out and I will see what I can do. You will also find the syllabus attached that each student will receive Tuesday to be returned by Friday.   Looking forward to meeting your sweet on Monday.
